About Highland
Highland is the village in rolling west-central Iowa County, a farming and service community set among the lead-and-zinc hills of southwest Wisconsin. The older regional economy was shaped by mining, rail connections, and small farms; even after active lead and zinc mining ended across the Upper Mississippi Valley, the area’s roads and place names still carry that history. Highland’s village government, churches, and Main Street businesses serve a wider rural area than the boundary line suggests.
Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area is the local draw, with a lake, campsites, fishing, swimming, boating, and hiking between Highland and Cobb. The village calendar adds a Lions Club Fisheree, community blood drives, parish dinners, a historical society, and the Little Britches of Wisconsin Rodeo. Those events make the recreation area and village halls part of the same seasonal circuit. Highland’s appeal is practical and outdoorsy: farm country at the door, old mining country underneath, and a lake that gives residents a place to gather when the weather turns warm.
