Hilbert, WI

Hilbert is a Calumet County village in east-central Wisconsin, with 1,248 residents at the 2020 census. The village's K-12 campus, Sargento Foods plant, parks, and local businesses give shape to a small community between the Fox Valley and Lake Michigan shore. Roads connect Hilbert with Appleton, Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan, while the old railroad corridor now carries a mix of active track and the Fox River State Trail.

Railroad history is the thread running through Hilbert's early growth. The Milwaukee and Northern completed its line from Hilbert Junction to Green Bay in 1873, opening a route through Calumet County and giving the settlement a place in the regional freight network. Hilbert's original depot burned in 1910; a Milwaukee Road depot built around 1910 still stands at Fifth and Cedar streets. The village's present-day map has changed from rail to roads and trails, but schools, industry, and community events keep the same compact center in view through the seasons.
