About Hilham

Hilham is a quiet rural community in Overton County, centered around the junction of State Routes 136 and 85. It has a colorful history dating back to 1797, when founder Moses Fisk laid out roads branching in all four compass directions, convinced he had found the exact center of the United States. Today, it is a peaceful, spread-out corner of the Upper Cumberland where residents enjoy wide-open space and a relaxed pace of life.

Fisk also established one of Tennessee's earliest academies for young women here in 1806, giving the area deep local roots. Modern Hilham is mostly made up of homes, family farms, and a few local spots along the highway. One of the best perks of living here is having Standing Stone State Park right down the road, with Route 136 leading straight to its scenic lake, quiet hiking trails, and historic rental cabins.
