Hillsboro, ND

Hillsboro is Traill County's seat, founded in 1881 on the Goose River in eastern North Dakota. German and Norwegian settlers were in the area by about 1870; the town site was briefly called Comstock before Hillsboro took hold. The county-seat role gives Main Street a courthouse-town feel, while the river remains the clearest geographic line. Woodland City Park sits along the Goose River with a swimming pool and dam, and Railroad Park keeps a caboose and local school mascot beside Main Street. The city is in the Red River Valley, so agriculture is a major part of the surrounding economy, and Hillsboro Public School District 9 serves local students. Hillsboro is a small county seat near the Minnesota border, with a river park, a railroad trace, and flat farm country all folded into the same local map.
