Hoboken, GA

Hoboken is a Brantley County city on U.S. 82 between Nahunta and Waycross, in the pine, flatwoods, and wetland country of southeast Georgia. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated it in 1920, and the name is generally understood as a transfer from Hoboken, New Jersey. The city’s strongest cultural thread is older than its municipal charter: Sacred Harp shape-note singing has continued in the area for more than 150 years. Monthly sings and an annual convention keep voices, songbooks, and family traditions connected to the town.

Twin Oaks Park adds a music-and-camping destination on the edge of town, with festivals that bring performers and visitors to the local calendar. U.S. 82 carries everyday trips east to Nahunta, the county seat, and west to Waycross, while Brantley County’s roads run through pine stands, pasture, and low wet ground. Hoboken is known through sound as much as scenery: the square harmonies of a Sacred Harp gathering, the stage at Twin Oaks, and the highway that links this small city with the rest of southeast Georgia.
