Hollandale, MN

Hollandale is a quiet, tight-knit farming community of around 340 people in southern Minnesota's Freeborn County. Unlike many towns that grew organically around a crossroads, Hollandale was carefully planned in the early 1920s after developers drained a vast wetland into thousands of acres of fertile soil. Soon after, hundreds of farm families, mostly of Dutch heritage, moved in to establish homesteads, giving the town both its name and its lasting cultural roots.

Agriculture is still the backbone of the area, and the town is widely known for the potatoes and produce grown in its rich, dark fields. Residents and visitors can explore that background at the Heritage Huis Museum, a local spot dedicated to preserving the community's Dutch settlement story. Highway 251 runs right through town, offering easy drives to neighboring hubs like Albert Lea and Austin while keeping Hollandale's peaceful, open-country pace intact.
