Holly Pond, AL

Holly Pond is a Cullman County town at the meeting of U.S. 278 and State Route 91. Its name comes from two natural ponds once surrounded by American holly trees, a spring-fed stopping place for travelers and wildlife. A school appeared on the site in 1872, followed by a general store, churches, and a post office in the 1880s. Holly Pond incorporated in the early twentieth century and has remained a municipality since 1912. The 2020 census counted 851 residents.

The town's school history is unusually deep for its size. Holly Pond High School became the first high school in Cullman County with its own library in 1908; today Holly Pond schools include elementary, middle, and high school grades. The town's Founders Day at Lions Club Park brings a produce show, parade, contests, crafts, and food vendors onto the calendar. Lions Club Park gives that yearly gathering a familiar home near the town's everyday routes. Holly Pond's ponds, holly trees, school, crossroads, and annual gathering keep the original name attached to present routines.
