About Homecroft

Homecroft is a small Marion County town tucked inside Indianapolis that still keeps its own town government and a very recognizable old neighborhood. Frank and Oliver Gates started the development in 1923 after buying 150 acres and working with the WPA to drain the swampy ground. The interurban line along Madison Avenue helped the town grow, and the Homecroft Historic District now preserves much of that early suburban layout. Banta Road, the Louisville and Indiana Railroad tracks, Tulip Drive, and Shelby Street still describe the edges. Perry Township Schools serve local students. Homecroft is a place where Unigov surrounds the town, but the old trolley-era map remains visible.
