About Homestead
Homestead is a Blaine County community that was platted along the Choctaw Northern Railroad before Oklahoma statehood. The Oklahoma Historical Society records its post office opening on January 26, 1893, and a 1905 territorial census counted 150 residents. The railroad later became part of the Rock Island system, with service ending around 1926. Homestead's present scale belongs to the agricultural landscape that surrounded the original rail town, where farms and homesteads outlasted the trains that first gave the community a name and a reason to gather.
