Honey Grove, TX

Honey Grove is a Fannin County city on U.S. 82 whose name goes back to a grove where David Crockett said he found wild bees and honey. Samuel Erwin arrived in 1842 and opened the first post office in 1846; the town was incorporated in 1873. The Texas and Pacific Railway reached town in the 1880s, turning Honey Grove into a retail center and shipping point for surrounding farms. By the 1890s it had two railroads, banks, churches, newspapers, and a busy square. Honey Grove is an east Texas town with a name that sounds sweet, but a history built on movement, trade, and farm country.
