Hoodsport, WA

Hoodsport is a Mason County census-designated place on Hood Canal, where U.S. 101 meets State Route 119. Lake Cushman lies up Route 119, and the road continues toward the Staircase area of Olympic National Park. The canal puts salt water on one side of the community and the Olympic Peninsula's forested mountains on the other. Hoodsport began as a small lumber and shipping settlement, and the shoreline still gives the place its working orientation.

The Port of Hoodsport keeps a public beachfront, pier, six-slip dock, and waterfront park in the center of town. Its Hoodsport Trail Park adds hiking routes and disc golf, while the canal draws boaters, anglers, shellfish gatherers, and scuba divers. Local businesses cluster along the highway, including a grocery and fuel stop, restaurants, a post office, a brewery, a distillery, and diving services. Hoodsport works as both a Hood Canal stop and the road town for Lake Cushman and Staircase, with the port, the water, and Route 119 all pointing toward the mountains.
