Horace, KS

Horace carries the name of Horace Greeley, the editor of the New York Tribune whose name also became Greeley County's. The city took shape in 1886 when the Missouri Pacific Railroad passed through, and its post office opened that year. Grain handling remains visible in the landscape through two elevator complexes, joined by a spray fertilizer company serving the farm economy around town. Greeley County USD 200 serves Horace from its schools in Tribune, the county seat. The result is a compact railroad-era community whose present work still follows the agricultural shipping system that gave it a place on the map.
