About Horseheads

Horseheads is a historic town in Chemung County, New York, situated just north of Elmira. Named for the lines of bleached horse skulls left behind during General John Sullivan's 1779 Revolutionary War march along Newtown Creek, the community of approximately 6,449 is served by the Horseheads Central School District for public education locally.
