About Hoxie

Hoxie is a Lawrence County city just south of Walnut Ridge, where U.S. 63 and U.S. 67 meet. Its railroad-and-farm-town map gained a national story in 1955, when the Hoxie School District became one of Arkansas’s first to desegregate. The first day drew attention through Life magazine and led to a court fight after the school board stood by its decision. Hoxie is northeast Arkansas with two highways, a town history, and a school story that reached far beyond Lawrence County.
