About Hubbard Lake

Hubbard Lake is an Alcona County census-designated place built around an 8,850-acre inland lake. The lake stretches across Caledonia, Alcona, and Hawes townships and drains toward the Thunder Bay River. Its dam began as a lumber-era project to hold enough water for floating logs, a reminder that the lake's recreation map grew out of an older working landscape. Three boat-access sites serve the lake, including two Michigan DNR launches and a township ramp. The Hubbard Lake State Game Area adds a 446-acre protected tract and 2,600 feet of lake frontage, while the Hubbard Lake Community Association is building a community center that will also house the Caledonia Branch of the Alcona County Library. Hubbard Lake is a CDP, but the lake, ramps, game area, and association give the name a clear center.
