Hugo is a city and the county seat of Choctaw County, Oklahoma, situated nine miles north of the Texas state line. Founded in 1901, named for French novelist Victor Hugo, and historically famous as winter quarters for major traveling circuses, the southeastern Oklahoma town of approximately 5,182 is served by Hugo Public Schools locally.
