About Hull

Hull is a Madison County city built around a railroad-era center and one memorable piece of street furniture: the historic well at Highway 72 and Glenn Carrie Road. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Hull in 1905, and the town was likely named for Reverend Hope Hull, a Methodist church leader. State Route 72 runs through the middle of town toward Athens and Colbert, while the surrounding ridge drains toward the South Fork of the Broad River. Hull's nickname, ‘The Well City,’ tells you how local the story is: one old well, one main route, and a small Georgia town that made both part of its identity.
