Huntington, OR

Huntington follows the Snake River in eastern Oregon, facing Idaho across the water and sitting alongside I-84 and US 30. Henry Miller settled here in August 1862 and built the Stage Tavern, later known as Miller Station. J.B. and J.M. Huntington bought the property in 1882, and the town took their name. The railroad made Huntington a common terminal beginning in the 1880s, turning the river crossing and stage stop into a regional point for travel and shipping. The 2020 population was 502.

The town still carries that layered transportation history. Remnants of the Old Oregon Trail are nearby, while the river, local parks, and Huntington’s historical museum keep the community tied to the landscape and its past. Huntington School District 16J serves local students from kindergarten through high school, and the town is part of the Treasure Valley Community College district. Hells Canyon and nearby state parks widen the recreational map, but Huntington’s own character comes from the meeting of river, railroad, highway, and ranch country along the Oregon-Idaho border.
