Huntington, TX

Huntington is a city in Angelina County, about ten miles southeast of Lufkin on US 69. The 2020 census counted 2,025 residents. The town was named for Collis P. Huntington, the Southern Pacific chairman whose railroad connections helped shape the settlement, and the tracks reached town in the early 1900s. Huntington's best-known local label is "Gateway to Lake Sam Rayburn," a nod to the reservoir and the Piney Woods around it. That lake connection gives Huntington a different rhythm from a county-seat suburb.

Boating, fishing, and drives toward the reservoir are part of the regional weekend map, while Lufkin handles many of the bigger errands. The reservoir is close enough to shape the town's weekends and summer drives. Huntington Independent School District keeps the center tied to surrounding families, and US 69 sends traffic north and south through the East Texas forest. Huntington is a small Angelina County city with a railroad beginning, a lake-facing nickname, and pine country in every direction.
