About Hurtsboro
Hurtsboro is a small town in Russell County, Alabama, with fewer than four hundred residents at the 2020 census. It sits in east Alabama's rural Black Belt and Chattahoochee-region orbit, away from the faster-growing parts of the state. The town also has a difficult historical episode: a 1920 standoff and siege known as the Hurtsboro race riot. Today Hurtsboro is residential and small, but that history gives the place a heavier civic memory than its population might suggest.
