Iberia, OH

Iberia is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Washington Township, Morrow County, on the Marion County line. Frederick Meyers and Samuel Foster founded it in 1827 and platted the town in 1832. For a place of its size, the educational history is unusually substantial: Iberia College, later called Ohio Central College, operated here as a Presbyterian-affiliated institution of higher learning. That college past still distinguishes the crossroads from a routine rural settlement.

The local map now centers on township and school institutions. Washington Township Hall stands on Township Road 49, Iberia Cemetery is nearby, and the Iberia Joint Fire District serves the area. Northmor Local School District covers Iberia, with students connected to campuses in the wider Morrow County area. Flat Run, a tributary of the Olentangy River, marks the landscape’s water system, while Ohio Central Bible College has revived higher education at Iberia through a modern institution using the old name. Iberia therefore carries two layers of education: a nineteenth-century college legacy and a present-day school-and-township network.
