Icehouse Canyon, AZ

Icehouse Canyon is a Gila County census-designated place immediately south of Globe, where homes follow Icehouse Canyon Road and Kellner Canyon Road as the valley climbs toward Tonto National Forest. The community sits in the lower folds of the Pinal Mountains, with Pinal Creek near its mouth and a forest edge beginning up-canyon. The name carries a local working-history detail: in the late nineteenth century, August Pieper cut ice from canyon tanks and hauled it by ox team into Globe for sale. That link between mountain cold and Globe's mining-era demand still gives the place its character.

At the Icehouse CCC site, the Forest Service marks a trailhead for the Pinal Mountain Trail System. Sixshooter and Telephone trails connect from there, and nearby Pinal Creek creates a riparian pocket amid chaparral. Icehouse Canyon Road, Kellner Canyon Road, the forest trails, and the homes strung along the valley make this a community where the road keeps climbing into public mountain country. The landscape shifts from houses and washes to trailheads, rock, and higher Pinal slopes within a few miles.
