About Independence

Independence is a city and the county seat of Buchanan County, Iowa. Founded in 1847 on the east side of the Wapsipinicon River and featuring a historic Illinois Central steam locomotive on public display, the community of approximately 6,164 is served by the Independence Community School District, which also includes the towns of Brandon and Rowley.
