Independence is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, situated as a southern suburb of Cleveland at the intersection of Interstates 77 and 480. Originally named Center before being renamed in 1830, the community of approximately 7,500 is home to the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. Public education is administered by the Independence Local School District, which operates three schools within the city limits.
