Indian Hills, NM

Indian Hills is a census-designated place in Torrance County, within the Moriarty-Edgewood School District. The 2020 census counted 947 residents. The community sits in central New Mexico's Estancia Basin, where ranchland, open grass, and long roads fill the space between Moriarty, Edgewood, and the smaller settlements around them. At roughly 6,457 feet, Indian Hills has the high, dry horizon common to the basin. The surrounding basin is broad and open, with ranch roads crossing grassland between scattered homes, working fields, and larger towns across the high plain.

Indian Hills is tied to Moriarty for schools and daily services, but it retains its own census boundary and local address. Interstate 40 and Historic Route 66 pass through nearby Moriarty, drawing traffic across the basin, while side roads lead back to ranches and homes. Its story comes through the map: a small high-desert community within Torrance County's broad school and highway network, with the Sandias on the western horizon and the Estancia Basin opening east.
