Indian Springs, TX

Indian Springs is a census-designated place in south-central Polk County, east of Livingston. The 2020 census counted 892 residents. The place is a newer planned community on the county map, distinct from an older rural Indian Springs that once had a post office and school. The name comes from nearby springs, while the current settlement sits in the broader Livingston area, with the county's piney woods and road network framing everyday travel. It is a place where an older rural name and a newer residential development overlap.

The older Indian Springs post office opened in 1872 under postmaster Henry Hutto and lasted about two years; residents established a school in 1892. By the early 1980s, another Indian Springs had formed east of Livingston, and that later community became the CDP counted today. Public schools fall within Livingston Independent School District, whose 306-square-mile boundary covers much of Polk County. Indian Springs therefore carries two timelines at once: a nineteenth-century rural outpost remembered in county history and a modern neighborhood tied to Livingston's schools and services.
