Industry, PA (Borough)

At the 2020 census, Industry was a Beaver County borough of 1,838 people along the Ohio River. A village was laid out by William McCallister in 1836, with a post office already operating by 1833; the township formed in 1856 and became a borough in 1960. The name was chosen as a kind of promise, advertising work and production before the borough had much of either. Pennsylvania Route 68 now runs through the center, linking Industry with Midland to the west and Beaver to the east.

The river keeps the older industrial map visible. Merrill, once a community in the borough's southeast corner, sat by the Ohio River and the old lock-and-dam system; no one has lived there since at least the 1960s. Montgomery Locks and Dam remains nearby, while a small piece of State Game Lands 173 reaches into Industry. Western Beaver County's main campus and junior-senior high school give the borough a daily center, and across the river are Shippingport, Raccoon, and Potter townships. Industry is a river borough whose name sounds broad, while its actual story is made of one road, one school district, and a lot of water.
