Ingram, TX

Ingram is a Kerr County city along the Guadalupe River between Kerrville and Hunt, in the Texas Hill Country. The 2020 census counted 1,787 residents. J.C.W. Ingram founded the place in 1879 after buying six acres, opening a store, and starting a post office. A 1932 flood pushed most businesses a half-mile northeast onto higher ground, and the flagstone storefronts that followed gave Ingram the nickname Rock Town. The river is still the town's clearest organizing feature: it is the first city the Guadalupe reaches downstream from Hunt. Ingram Independent School District serves the city and the surrounding west Kerr County area, with a school walking track and tennis courts available to residents when school activities are not taking place.

The Guadalupe brings swimming and river recreation into the local routine, while the road between Kerrville and Hunt keeps the city tied to the rest of the valley. Ingram's local scoop is a Hill Country river town whose flood history is written into its street pattern and whose stone buildings gave the town its old Rock Town nickname.
