About Inkom
Inkom is a Bannock County city whose name reaches back to the Shoshone word Ingacom, tied to the rock formation east of town known as the Red Hare. The formation once had ear-like projections; a 1930 photograph shows it before vandals knocked those pieces away. The local creek was first called Rabbit River and later became Rapid Creek. Those names give Inkom its best local orientation: the red landform east of town, the creek running through the story, and a name inherited from the people who knew the place before the city took shape. Inkom is part of the Pocatello metro, but its own shorthand starts with the rabbit and the rock.
