About Isla Vista

On a blufftop plateau between UC Santa Barbara and the Pacific, Isla Vista is a compact unincorporated community whose population is predominantly UCSB and Santa Barbara City College students. Isla Vista had 15,500 residents in 2020. Its traditional boundaries run from the UCSB campus at Ocean Road west to Camino Majorca, with El Colegio Road on the north and the beach on the south. UCSB moved to its neighboring campus in 1954. Community institutions include the Isla Vista Food Co-op and Santa Barbara Student Housing Co-op.
