Istachatta, FL

Tucked along the banks of the Withlacoochee River in Hernando County, Istachatta is a quiet pocket of Old Florida. Back around the turn of the twentieth century, it was a busy railroad stop and river port shipping timber and produce toward Brooksville. Today, it has settled into a tiny, peaceful community shaded by grand mossy oaks. With only a few dozen homes, it offers an easygoing, rural lifestyle centered around paddling, fishing, and taking in the natural scenery.
