Ivalee, AL

Ivalee is a census-designated place in rural western Etowah County, Alabama, with 946 residents in the 2020 census. The community sits among the roads and farms west of Gadsden and Attalla, but its clearest local address is Ivalee Elementary. The school has served generations of families: the original building burned in 1941, a six-classroom replacement opened in 1949, and later additions brought a library, gymnasium, lunchroom, and more classrooms.

Ivalee Elementary now serves students from prekindergarten through sixth grade as part of Etowah County Schools. That long school history gives the CDP a center of gravity that its unincorporated designation does not show. Gallant Road carries everyday traffic through the area, with nearby communities such as Gallant, Altoona, Walnut Grove, and Egypt sharing the same rural county network. Ivalee is a small Alabama community whose story is held in a school rebuilt after fire, generations of families returning to the same campus, and roads that connect the western Etowah countryside.
