About Ivanhoe
Ivanhoe is a census-designated place in southern Wythe County, Virginia, United States, that straddles the border of Wythe and Carroll counties. The 2020 census counted 501 residents. Ivanhoe is situated in the Appalachian Mountains along New River, and New River Trail State Park passes through Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe was the birthplace of Robert Sayers Sheffey, eccentric Methodist circuit rider and evangelist. The through line in Ivanhoe is the way its history and present-day settings remain visible on the same map. Ivanhoe makes the most sense through those concrete details, with its history still visible in the settings people use today. A nearby rock quarry and mines were no longer operating in 2018.
