About Jackpot
Jackpot is an Elko County community on U.S. 93, just south of the Idaho line, with a local clock that runs on Mountain Time and a local economy built around casino travel. Cactus Pete Piersanti and Don French moved their Idaho slot operations here after Idaho outlawed casino gaming in 1954, and the settlement first appeared on the county map as Horse Shu. Today Jackpot has its own school, golf course, and post office, while Salmon Falls Creek and the Granite Range set the high-desert backdrop. It is Nevada with one foot in Idaho's Magic Valley.
