Jackson is the county seat of Cape Girardeau County in southeastern Missouri, about seven miles northwest of Cape Girardeau on U.S. Route 61. Its civic role goes back to the early 1800s, when county courts and government functions helped establish the town's importance. Jackson has a historic district, public schools in the Jackson R-2 district, and a quieter residential feel than nearby Cape Girardeau.
