At Jacksonville Beach's fishing pier, the public day begins at 6 a.m. and can run until 10:30 at night, weather permitting. The structure reaches nearly a quarter-mile into the Atlantic and combines ordinary sightseeing with a working angling facility: a bait shop, rod rentals, restrooms, and fishing access covered by the pier's license. Local residents pay lower walking and fishing fees than nonlocals. The same resident-visitor distinction appears on shore. During the 2026 paid-parking season, registered city residents park free in designated municipal areas, while regular visitor rates begin at $4 for the first two hours and apply on weekends, selected holidays, and special-event dates. Ocean access does not define every recreation option.

Two-acre Oceanfront Park has dune walkovers, an accessible beach ramp, educational displays, picnic shelters, volleyball, and a playground. Farther south, South Beach Park and Sunshine Playground combine tennis and pickleball courts, basketball, sand volleyball, a skate park, fitness trail, multipurpose turf, and a seasonal splash pad. The 2026 parks calendar also shows farmers markets, tai chi, outdoor music, and a classic-car cruise near Latham Plaza and the SeaWalk Pavilion. Jacksonville Beach retained its municipal government when Jacksonville and Duval County consolidated in 1968. Residents elect a local mayor and seven-member council while also voting in Jacksonville and Duval County contests; county government funds or provides beach renourishment, cleanup, and some rescue work.
