Jacksonville, NY

Jacksonville is a hamlet and census-designated place along New York Route 96 in the Town of Ulysses, about six kilometers southeast of Trumansburg. Its post office opened in 1820, giving the place a long-running civic marker even as the surrounding town developed into a landscape of farms, open space, and scattered residential pockets. Jacksonville is one of several historic communities inside Ulysses, a township whose eastern edge reaches Cayuga Lake and whose larger village center is Trumansburg.

That arrangement makes Jacksonville a rural address with its daily connections spread across the town. Most of the CDP falls within the Trumansburg Central School District, with a smaller section in the Ithaca City School District. Town history, newspapers, and genealogy are kept through the Ulysses Historical Society, the Ulysses Philomathic Library, and the town historian’s collections in Trumansburg. Route 96 links the hamlet to those services, while nearby farms and the Cayuga Lake side of Ulysses keep the setting tied to the Finger Lakes landscape. Jacksonville’s defining feature is its position inside that network of small communities, institutions, and working land.
