Jasper centers around its courthouse square, with streets branching south toward the Patoka River. Down near the water, the Old Jasper district brings together the historic City Mill, the train depot, and newer spots at the River Centre. You will find a great mix of housing across town, from well-kept historic homes near the center to newer subdivisions on the outer edges. Whether you want to walk to downtown shops or prefer a quieter lot near the city limits, the neighborhoods feel welcoming and well cared for.

Long famous for woodworking and furniture making, Jasper backs up its small-town charm with a strong local job market. Major employers like MasterBrand, Kimball, and Jasper Engines anchor the manufacturing base, while Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive healthcare for the surrounding counties. Vincennes University Jasper offers higher education right in town, and the city-owned utility system keeps essential services reliable. Because the city is compact, daily commutes rarely take more than ten or fifteen minutes.

There is plenty to do around town on weekends and evenings. The Riverwalk stretches for over two miles along the Patoka River, while The Parklands transformed a former golf course into 75 acres of walking trails, woods, ponds, and play areas. Downtown, the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center combines the public library, art galleries, and a black-box theater into one shared space. Every August, Jasper's German roots shine during Strassenfest, when the courthouse square fills with polka bands, great food, and lively street festivities.
