About Jeffersonville
Jeffersonville is a Montgomery County city on U.S. 460, with Main Street carrying the highway toward Mount Sterling and Frenchburg. In the mid-19th century it was a cattle-trading center known as Ticktown—a name linked either to tickgrass or to ticks in the cattle pens. The first Jeffersonville post office opened in 1866, and the city incorporated in 1876. This is eastern Kentucky where an old livestock nickname still sits underneath the formal name.
