About Jennings
Jennings was laid out in 1888 after its post office had operated under the name Slab City. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad later ran through the Decatur County city, placing it on a regional rail route. Jennings schools closed during district unification. Students south of Highway 383 are in Hoxie USD 412, while those north of the highway are in Oberlin USD 294. Jennings' former rail corridor and the highway's school boundary remain the clearest lines on its local map.
