Julian is an unincorporated community and census-designated place that is located in Huston Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. The 2010 census counted 152 residents. Julian is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. Julian is part of the larger Bald Eagle Valley. That mix gives Julian a clear local shape within Pennsylvania, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. The community was originally named Juliana Furnace after Julia Ann Irvin, the wife of James Irvin, the proprietor of a local blast furnace. Julian is in the valley of Bald Eagle Creek, with Bald Eagle Mountain rising to the southeast and foothills of the Allegheny Front to the northwest.
