Junction, TX

Junction is Kimble County's seat in the Texas Hill Country, named for the meeting of the North and South Llano rivers. The 2020 census counted 2,451 residents. The community began in 1876 as Denman, became Junction City the next year, and settled into Junction by 1894. The courthouse square and river crossings still make the town feel like the place where routes and watercourses come together. In summer, the river gives the courthouse town a second center for swimming, paddling, and camping. That mix keeps Junction feeling bigger than its head count.

South Llano River State Park spreads over 2,600 acres just outside town, with the river, pecan groves, camping, and paddling shaping Junction's outdoor side. Downtown holds the Kimble County Historical Museum and the Fisher Museum, while Texas Tech's University Center at Junction adds a college presence to the county-seat mix. Junction's local scoop is a West Texas gateway town where two rivers, a courthouse, and a big state park all meet in one very legible map.
