Juniata Gap, PA

Juniata Gap is an unincorporated census-designated place in western Blair County, in the northwest part of Logan Township. Spring Run threads the community at the base of the Allegheny Front, which rises to 2,542 feet one mile west. Juniata Gap Road follows the run onto the Allegheny Plateau at Wopsononock and southeast toward northern Altoona. The result is a small place organized by grade and road more than by a downtown.

Altoona Area School District serves local students, including Altoona Area High School, so the community’s daily orbit runs toward the city as well as up the mountain. The road links homes in the gap to work, school, and shopping in Altoona while keeping the Allegheny Front in view. Spring Run and the rising ridge are the fixed features; the road is the connector. Juniata Gap is a central Pennsylvania community where a narrow valley meets a major Appalachian slope and a regional city. In winter, the gap’s grade and exposed slopes make the road feel even more like the community’s main gathering route.
