About Kalihiwai
Kalihiwai, also written Kalihi Wai in older place records, is a census-designated place on Kauai's north shore. The 2020 census counted 361 residents. Kilauea borders it to the east and Princeville to the west, while Hawaii Route 56 forms the southern edge and links the community with Hanalei and the east-side road network. The Kalihiwai River runs to the coast, giving the place a natural north-south line through a small settlement between highway and ocean. Kalihiwai Beach is the clearest local landmark: a bay at the river mouth backed by rainforest, with the beach, stream, and road meeting in one compact coastal setting.
The surrounding map matters more than a long list of amenities here. Hanalei is about five miles west, Kapaa about 17 miles southeast, and Kilauea sits on the other side of the community. Kalihiwai is a small north-shore address organized around a river mouth and the route that stitches Kauai's east and west sides together by road.
