Kaltag, AK

Kaltag is a small, close-knit village of about 160 people nestled along the lower Yukon River in western Alaska. Best known as a key checkpoint on the Iditarod Trail where mushers leave the river to head toward the coast, life here revolves around the seasons, salmon fishing, and deep community ties. With no road access, getting in and out depends on small planes or traveling the river by boat and snowmachine.
