Kanarraville, UT

Kanarraville rests at the foot of the Hurricane Cliffs on the southwest side of Cedar Valley. The first settlers arrived in 1861 and 1862, after heavy rains washed out Fort Harmony and sent its residents looking for firmer ground. They called the new settlement Kanarra, a name associated with Piute Chief Canarrah or Quanarrah, and later added the town's present ending. Kanarra Creek and Spring Creek shape the community's setting, with Cedar City close by to the north.

Farming and ranching have long shared the valley with coal mining, and the surrounding cliffs remain part of how residents describe home. The trails to Kanarra Falls bring visitors into the canyon country just beyond town, while the streets themselves retain the feel of a small agricultural settlement. Kanarraville incorporated in 1934 and had 442 residents in the 2020 census. Its character comes from the meeting of irrigated fields, red-rock walls, and the old route from a washed-out fort to a permanent town.
