About Kane

Kane is a McKean County borough founded in 1864 by Civil War General Thomas L. Kane, high in the Allegheny plateau and near the Allegheny National Forest. The town once had glassworks, lumber mills, and the Holgate Toy Company, whose wooden Mister Rogers trolley connected a local factory to a nationally familiar show. Today Kane’s calendar includes Kane Fest and Art in the Wilds, with Evergreen Park and the West Branch of the Clarion River adding the local geography. The quick local read is forest edge, old manufacturing, Black Cherry country, and a borough with an arts calendar alongside its industrial past.
