Kapaau, HI

Kapaau is a quiet town on the lush northern tip of the Big Island in North Kohala. Home to roughly 2,200 residents, it offers a peaceful rural lifestyle rooted in Hawaiian heritage and sugar plantation history. The town is best known as the birthplace of King Kamehameha I, and the original 1880 bronze statue honoring him stands right in front of the old courthouse. Driving along Akoni Pule Highway takes you through the heart of the community, connecting you with the neighboring village of Hawi and the scenic lookout at Pololu Valley just down the road.
