Kaukauna, WI

Kaukauna is a Fox River city in Wisconsin's Fox Cities region, east of Appleton. Its name comes from Native languages and has been interpreted as meaning portage, long portage, or a place where pickerel are caught, all fitting for a river town. The city is divided into North Side and South Side areas by the river, which shaped industry, transportation, and local identity. Kaukauna has paper-mill history, neighborhoods, schools, and a working Fox Valley feel rather than a purely suburban one.
