Kaumakani, HI

Kaumakani is a quiet, historic community tucked along the sunny southwest coast of Kauai. Built in the 1940s to house workers for the Olokele Sugar Company, the village retains much of its vintage plantation character, from compact wooden cottages to expansive views across the surrounding red-dirt fields. Everyday life here is peaceful and grounded, far removed from the island's busier resort hubs. Sitting right along Kaumualii Highway, Kaumakani gives residents easy access to the shops and weekly art nights in nearby Hanapepe, while keeping a relaxed, tight-knit neighborhood feel where Kauai's agricultural roots are still very much alive.
